Cards’ Magic Number (of late) is 14

After managing more than seven hits in only two of their first eight games, the Cardinals pounded out 11 hits in their game on April 10th.  Then they kicked it into another gear, with a streak of five straight games with at least 14 hits, including last night’s 11-2, 19-hit thumping of the Dodgers in Los Angeles.  The Redbirds have gone 82-211 (.389) over those five games.

The Cards need two more such games this weekend to tie the Major League record for consecutive 14+ hit games:

Today’s tilt is against Clayton Kershaw, he of the 1.02 WHIP and 24/4 K/BB ratio.  Methinks LaRussa’s crew might not make it six straight games.
