July is upon us, so its time to check in again on the league leaders for the annual “Pi Young Award“.
First up . . . the American League/no innings requirement. Leading the race at 3.13 is Orioles’ reliever Troy Patton. He is followed closely by a quartet of hurlers .02 off of pi. The Royals’ Nathan Adcock is .02 under the magic 3.14, while the Yanks’ David Phelps, and the Rangers’ Neftali Feliz and Matt Harrison each sitting at 3.16.
In the AL “ERA qualifiers” group, Harrison has a slight lead on the Mariners’ Felix Hernandez and Hiroki Kuroda of the Yankees.
In the NL/no innings requirement Rockies’ reliever Rafael Betancourt and the Dodgers’ DLed Ted Lilly are right at 3.14, while Lilly’s teammate Josh Lindblom is right behind at 3.13
For the NL ERA qualifiers, Cole Hamels of the Phillies has a big lead over A.J. Burnett of the Pirates and the Brewers’ Shawn Marcum.
