Its been a great seven months affiliated with ESPN’s SweetSpot network of blogs, and a great 15 months up and running overall. The blog is getting over 7,000 pageviews per month, and has been referenced by entities like SABR, Hardball Times, Baseball Nation and Baseball Prospectus. I thank you all for your comments, critiques, interest and insight.
It does cost some money to host this site, and as much as I love writing (and the process behind it), I’d love it even more if the site paid for itself. Furthermore and more importantly, as some of you may already now, I am embarking on writing a formal proposal for my first book, discussing the most memorable names in baseball history. The research that I need to conduct for this book will require some expenditures for reference books and online subscriptions to sources like Ancestry.com and related sites.
On the top right-hand side of the blog are a few widgets. One is a general “Donation” button. It allows you to donate via PayPal or by credit card. If you have a disdain for either of those methods, please contact me using the “Make First Contact” on-line form on the right-hand side of the site and I’ll give you a mailing address if you’d like to send a check.
Below that is a button for Amazon.com. If you click on that link, and make a purchase on Amazon, I get a small percentage of the purchase cost back as an “affiliate”. The last button is for the recently-released “The Hall of Nearly Great” ebook, which features many wonderful baseball writers discussing players who didn’t quite make the Hall of Fame, but were still terrific on the field. If you click on that link and purchase the book, I get a portion of the purchase price back.
Or, here’s a novel idea . . . purchase a reference book for me from this special “VORG Pledgers” Amazon Wish List! It can be in any format . . . hardcover, softcover, ebook, new or used. I’ll be updating the WishList periodically. I’ll be very grateful, and I’ll make sure you get a wonderful acknowledgment on the site and in my book upon its publication.
If you want to see your name “in lights” on the site, for a donation of $75, I’ll list you as a “Patron” for one year in a new widget on the side of the blog, with a hyperlink to your site if you like. Similarly, if you’d like to advertise on the site, drop me a line using the contact form on the right-hand side of this site.
Whichever way you choose to support the VORG, I greatly appreciate your generosity. If you already have donated, you rock!
