Out of Baseball and into Politics

Come Tuesday, the long, arduous and sometimes bitter battle for the White House will come to an end, as voting for the next President of the United States will wind down.

There have been quite a few former Major League players who have gone on to serve public office.  Beyond judgeships, clerks and the like, some players have become Mayors, Senators or Congressmen.  Here then are some of the players achieving those loftier political positions (this is NOT an exhaustive list):

SP: Vinegar Bend Mizell – North Carolina Congressman; Cowboy Jones – Mayor of Golden, Colorado; Tommy Byrne – Mayor of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Jim Bunning – Kentucky Senator; John Tener – Pennsylvania Governor

C: Pi Schwert – New York Congressman

1B: Randy Bass – Oklahoma Senator

2B: Parson Nicholson – Mayor of Bellaire, Ohio

SS: Billy Rogell – Detroit City Councilman

3B: Dave Edler – Mayor of Yakima, Washington

OF: Rick Bosetti – Mayor of Redding, California; Fred Brown – New Hampshire Governor; Fred Snodgrass – Mayor of Oxnard, California
