The VORG’s 2016 “Rookie of the Year” Awards

If you’re new to the VORG, please note that we give out our awards not necessarily to the BEST player for each honor, but for the most NOTABLE player. For example, Michael Fulmer and Corey Seager are the favorites for the Rookie of the Year awards. However, those two gentleman didn’t distinguish themselves in the slightly warped, silly, odd world of the VORG.

Instead, the VORG is proud to present its American League Rookie of the Year to Blue Jays’ pitcher Dustin Antolin and the National League award to the Rockies’ David Dahl.

Dustin’s full name (Dustin Kamakana Mai Ku’u Makualani Antolin) has a total length of 42 characters including spaces, placing him just behind these all-time leaders:

First Name Last Name Given Name Total Length
Bruno Betzel Christian Frederick Albert John Henry David Betzel 50
Al Gallagher Alan Mitchell Edward George Patrick Henry Gallagher 51
Cal McLish Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish 46

Dahl hit in 17 straight games to start his career, tying the MLB record set in 1941 by Chuck Aleno. Aleno hit .389 during his 17-game run, but after that streak, he proceeded to hit .133 (!) over his remaining 37 games that season.

Here is Dahl’s game-by-game log for his 17-game streak, during which he hit .358:
