A Very VORG Hiatus

Today being the 1st of the month, I would normally have provided a monthly update to the leaders in the Three True Outcomes.

However, I’m posting tonight to let you know that I’m taking a hiatus from blogging for the foreseeable future, for a very good and fun reason.

I’m writing my first book/book proposal. Its going to be a guide to the “advanced stats” that have seeped into baseball over the past few years.

It won’t be aiming at the exact same audience as Keith Law’s “Smart Baseball” (a terrific book in its own right). My book will be targeting the more-casual fan who finds statistics daunting and thinks WHIP is either “cool” or what you must use when a problem comes along. Its not a “for dummies” book, but I’m definitely going to be taking it slow in terms of introducing new concepts.

Once I have the proposal finished (I have a preface, part of the introduction and part of the first chapter already done), I’ll be looking for a publisher. If no publisher wants it, I’m determined to self-publish it.

So for at least the next year, this site will be pretty quiet. I’ll still be around on Twitter and Facebook. You can come to me with the usual questions regarding “has this ever happened” and I might be inclined to research it, but I won’t be writing it up here.

Thanks to all you loyal readers for many years of great article ideas, thoughtful comments and support.

See you after the book is done!
