As noted by Jayson Stark and others, yesterday’s Twins/Angels game saw a nearly identical set of starting pitcher lines:
Min-Angels starters Thurs:
Mejia 6+ IP 5 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 1 HR 84 pitches 51 strikes
Meyer 6+ IP 5 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 1 HR 84 pitches 51 strikes— Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) June 2, 2017
Here are the details in a tidier form:
| Bold can mean player is active for this team or player has appeared in MLB * means LHP or LHB, # means switch hitter, + can mean HOFer.”>Name |
Tm | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR | Click to see the pitch-by-pitch sequence.”>Pit | Includes both pitches in the zone and those swung at out of the zone.”>Str |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adalberto Mejia | Minnesota | 6.0 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 1 | 84 | 61% |
| Alex Meyer | Los Angeles | 6.0 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 84 | 61% |
I don’t have the tools to determine if any pair of starting pitchers ever matched even more of their stat lines, but I still thought this was worth mentioning.
If you want to get a bit wackier, according to the ESPN play-by-play log, the HR Meyer surrendered to Sano was to CF and went 405 feet. The HR Mejia surrendered to Calhoun went to CF and, yep, 405 feet!
And if you want go get ridiculously absurd, the HR for Sano was #13. Calhoun wound up with a pair of HR, #6+#7 ?
Holy crap!
Love this. And still can’t believe Jayson was DFAed. Ridiculous.
